Performance and Maintenance

Factors Affecting Graphic Performance:

  • Substrate selection and preparation.
  • Environmental conditions (e.g., sun exposure, temperature).
  • Cleaning and maintenance methods.

Cleaning Instructions:

  • Use pH-neutral, non-abrasive cleaners.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, brushes, or parking near scratch-prone areas.
  • Store wrapped vehicles in temperature-controlled environments.

Removal: Heat and/or chemicals may be required. Removal speed and ease vary based on conditions.

Important Installation Notes

  • Film Orientation: Maintain a consistent orientation for textured, metallic, pearl, and color flip films to avoid visible inconsistencies.
  • Cutting: Use 3M™ Knifeless™ Tape to ensure clean cuts without damaging the substrate.
  • Stretch Areas: Apply 3M™ Primer 94 on edges and stretch zones to improve adhesion.
  • Heat Usage: Use a heat gun instead of a torch for precision and to prevent altering the film’s finish.

Warranty and Technical Guidance: Refer to the 3M™ MCS™ Warranty for regional coverage and application-specific guidance. Always consult local 3M representatives for technical assistance.

  • Key Features

    • Conformability and Ease of Installation: 2080 requires less heat during application and is more conformable than older 3M™ Wrap Films.
    • Enhanced Appearance: High Gloss colors provide a 250% improvement in reflected image quality compared to typical premium cast vinyl wraps, offering a mirror-like finish.
    • Advanced Adhesive Technology:
      • 3M™ Controltac™: Allows for easy sliding, tacking, snap-up, and repositioning of the film.
      • 3M™ Comply™: Features air release channels for fast, bubble-free installations.
    • Clear Protective Film Layer (on Gloss and High Gloss finishes):
      • Protects against surface impressions and scratches during installation.
      • Enables wrapping over complex surfaces with the layer intact, which must be removed post-installation.
    • Directional Arrows on the Liner: Assist with consistent installation for textured, metallic, pearl, and color flip films. (Note: High Gloss films may exhibit directionality and should be installed in a uniform orientation.)
    • Wide Format Rolls: Available in 60-inch (1.52 m) rolls, minimizing seams during application.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will Vinyl Wrap protect my car from scratches?

Yes, it can protect your paint from light abrasions such as tree branches and some stone chips.

If you are looking to protect your car then you may be looking for paint protective film (PPF) this is a different product to vinyl wrap.

How long does vinyl wrap last for?

Much like paint, if you leave your car out in the sun all day every day, the vinyl wrap can deteriorate within the first year after installation. If you look after the film by avoiding long UV exposure and maintaining it then you can get up to 8 years out of it.

Will vinyl wrap damage my paint?

No, genuine branded vinyl wrap in most cases will protect your paint from general wear and tear.

How will I know when the vinyl wrap has to be removed?

You will notice the film becomes quite faded and in some cases may begin to crack or flake. It is highly recommended to remove the film before the deterioration continues otherwise the removal process will become more tedious and time consuming.

How do I maintain my vinyl wrap?

It is recommended to keep the film washed and clean while only using PH neutral car wash products and avoid rough physical washing processes such as an automatic car wash.

What is PPF?

PPF stands for Paint Protection Film. It is a clear, durable, and flexible polyurethane film designed to protect a vehicle's paint from damage. It serves as a protective layer against scratches, rock chips, road debris, insect stains, and environmental contaminants like UV rays and acid rain.

PPF is specifically designed to protect paint from hard abrasions.
